The process of housemanship application

Hoorey! I passed EPR!  What next? Well, once u passed the EPR-clinical, the person incharge of EPR will call and ask u to come and collect the result or you better call MMC and ask for the update after one month of your clinical exam date cause they might call you up to inform the result very late which will make you apply job in SPA late and consequently you’ll be getting job late. For those who living far frm KL, what u can do to save ur time is, download the application for provisional registration form(form 4) frm mmc website before u come to collect the EPR result, fill it up and bring along 1set of the certified copies of ur documents..get ur EPR-Clinical result, go to the primary school opposite the MMC, get 5 copies of EPR result(both theory n clinical results to be in the safe side), go n get those certified and also u can ask the headmaster to sign the declaration part of form 4. Thats it, u can submit all the documents to mmc for the application for provisional registration. Then u will get ur ‘Qualifiable for Provisional Registration’ letter after 14days in which there will be a reference number for job application with SPA.
While you waiting for your ‘Qualifiable for Provisional Registration’ letter, you can sign-in to SPA website and fill-up all the details except for the mmc reference number. In case you have any doubts in filling-up the SPA job application e-forms, just give a call to SPA, fill it up correctly to avoid rejection of the application later on. After u get the ref number, just update the details in SPA and click the ‘PENGAKUAN part’, and then ‘HANTAR’. Previously after the e-application with SPA, applicants (pegawai perubatan UD41)will have to wait for SPA interview but now its no more. So, now you will wait for the email from KKM straight. Once you receive e-mail from KKM, you can now create account with e-houseman and wait for the e-houseman opening. Good luck for the placement.
You may have to wait for atleast 6months to get a houseman posting. After you get a placement for housemanship, you have to download the spa job offer letter and bring it to MMC in order to get the temporary practicing cert(TPC). You won’t be getting the TPC on that day itself. MMC will inform you a date to come again and collect the ‘SIJIL PENDAFTARN SEMENTARA’ normally in a batch. On the day when you are going to collect the ‘SIJIL PENDAFTARN SEMENTARA’, bring along the filled-up ‘SENARAI SEMAK PERMOHONAN PENEMPATAN PEGAWAI PERUBATAN ( LANTIKAN BARU)’ which you can download from KKM website and prepare copies of the documents they asked in the list. Now that you’ve got your ‘sijil’ frm MMC, jz make few copies of it,  insert one copy with the ‘senarai semak KKM’, straight frm MMC go to Putrajaya Kompleks E, search for block E7, get into the building take lift to level 9, find Bahagian Sumber Manusia Unit Pengurusan & Profesional and submit the KKM set of ‘senarai semak’at a rack there.

All about EPR :-the Theoretical Exam and the Clinical Exam

The theoretical exam format, MMC will just follow 100% with what it put in its’ website. It may be different now from what I had last time. So, pls check in the MMC website on updates.
please refer page 4 from the following link for the theory format:-
Examination for Provisional Registration
The reference books for EPR theory exam is depends on each person’s liking. But I advise u not to choose thick textbooks since u may be get overwhelmed by the amount of pages u need to finish reading. So go for a concised one. I personally used the books from USM ‘students to students’..they hv books for all major subjects that u have to cover for theory(paeds, med, ong, surg, ortho and psych). U can get those from the USM kubang kerian campus maybe in their bookshop (pls do ask around). I photocopied the books frm a friend. The books from ucsi are also good..particularly I used the ‘Doctrina perpetua-guides on clinical surgery’ – quite good and easily to understand.
I heard from one of my EPR friend that the EPR questions are as similar as USMLE mcqs, so u may practice with those if u manage to get..and USMLE questions are said to be as similar as question from Pre-Test questions..so u can also practice OBA questions from PreTest.
Now moving on to Clinical part. The clinical exam is based on OSCE form – with both manned and unmanned stations.
Clinical Exam format : 6 long OSCE 15 minutes each(included 1 minute question reading time) and 10 short OSCE 6 minutes each(included 1 minute question reading time)
Total Duration: 2 ½ hours
p/s : this is what I had at IMU in 2017, don’t forget to get the updated details
You’ll be tested on the problem solving, communication, physical examination, and history taking skills from following disciplines :- Internal Medicine, Surgery, Family Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Eye and ENT

6 Long OSCEs from :- Internal Medicine(1 station), Surgery(1 station), Family Medicine(1 station), Paediatrics(1 station), Obstetrics & Gynaecology(1 station) and Psychiatry(1 station)
10 short OSCEs from :- Internal Medicine(2 stations), Surgery(2 stations), Family Medicine(1 station), Paediatrics(1 station), Obstetrics & Gynaecology(1 station), Orthopaedics(1 station), Eye(1 station) and ENT(1 station)
Again n again im reminding you that these are what I had for my examination. It may differ for you now, so please be checked with your exam centre.
osce book cover  “OSCEs FOR MEDICAL FINALS published by Wiley Blackwell” – a good reference for mastering OSCEs

and there are few websites for references :- http://www.oscestop.com, http://www.osce-stations.com, geeky medics(youtube)

and i guess all these informations are enough for you to know before you get registered for the EPR. ALL THE BEST for your EPR guys. See you all in my next post regarding houseman-ship process after passing EPR

Registration for EPR

The documents you need for the EPR exam registration are:-
  • EPR application form and fill it up in BLOCK LETTERs(can be downloaded from MMC website)
  • Your basic medical degree
  • The transcript of results covering the whole study duration(1st – final year)
  • Translated medical degree in case ur degree is not in English
  • SPM certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • IC (both side in one page A4 paper size), curriculum vitae
  • Statutory declaration (done by commissioner of oath) in case of ur name in the IC and the medical degree is different (for exp:-in Europe, the family name will be written first and then followed by given name not like in Malaysia we write given name first)
p/s : all copies of the documents must be certified according to MMC’s guidelines (must consist of person’s name, position , full address of his/her workplace)..just go to any primary school or secondary school’s headmaster and get it done..easy job..make 8 copies of each document and get those certified..cz u’ll need these documents for EPR registration – 1 set, provisional registration application-1 set, to give KKM – 1 set, PTM – 1 set, lapor diri at the hospital – 3 sets, extra 1 set , get passport sized photos around 10-15pcs
For the statutory declaration form, you may download the following form to save your money cause the typing of the form will be charged RM 10 and the signature of the oath commissioner is RM 4 in Kajang. So, jz print 1 copy, get the signature and photocopy it in multiples and then certify those copies at any school.
The documents that you’ll be getting after you pass your EPR are subsequently :-
  • the Theory pass cert,
  • the Clinical Pass cert,
  • the ‘Letter of Qualifiable for Registration’ (this one you will have the reference number for SPA online job application)
  • the official EPR cert
Later on, once you successfully get the ‘PENEMPATAN’ at the  e-houseman system, you’ll be getting the ‘SIJIL PENDAFTARAN SEMENTARA’ by submitting the SPA offer letter to MMC.

An intro to Examination for Provisional Examination(EPR)

I am a Malaysian medical graduate from University of Medicine and Pharmacy Gr. T. Popa, Iasi, Romania.
I’ve been actually thinking for past few months to get started with this blog but then I don’t really know from where to start actually. Somehow I have started my mission and here I am writing a blog for the first time.
The main reason why I am writing this blog is I thought it would be helpful and be a guidance to those who gonna sit for Examination for Provisional Examination(EPR) . EPR is a medical licensing exam for unrecognized  overseas returned/ local medical graduates to get enrolled into houseman-ship in Malaysia. It was formerly known as MQE(Medical Qualifying Examination). A lil history of MQE; initially the programme was run by 3 govt uni  UM, UKM, USM with a fee of RM 3k (one and a half month course + exam) until 2011. Then the MMC came up with a revised MQE programme where it was run by 16 uni (private + govt) with a fee ranging from RM 31k – 50k(6-9mths course + exam) until 2015.
And then, again it was revised and finally the EPR was finalized starting from 2016 (1st EPR theoretical exam was in july 2016). EPR is a centralized exam where the exam centers will be decided by MMC meaning all candidates will have the same exam centre. Up to this date(end of 2017) the center for EPR theoretical exam is at HUKM and for clinical exam is IMU. It may change in future, so do keep in touch with MMC to know the latest update. In order to sit for the exam, you have to pay RM1k (application processing fee), RM3k (theory exam fee) and RM3k (clinical exam fee) and there was clinical attachment in IMU with extra charge+.
Regarding the time period for the whole process of EPR, I’m writing from my personal experience. I sat for the theory exam in 30th march 2017 and got the result in the end of May 2017. Whoever passed the theory exam is eligible for clinical exam. Those who failed, have to retake the theory exam. Coming back to my own journey, I passed theory and got the date for clinical exam on July 19th to be exact and got the result in 3rd week of September. And thereafter, proceed with houseman-ship application.
This EPR process will roughly kill a whole year of ur time. So, good time management is all u need in case u wanna go for any temporary job.
This is just an effort of making this blog a one stop guidance for EPR candidates. I found it from my own experiences, it is really time consuming to search for guidance from zero. So, the idea to start this blog just popped up in my thought. I hope this will make your life easier to start your exam preparation. These are purely my personal opinion and experiences. Hence, no compulsion to follow blindly whatever I wrote in this blog and pls just use as guidance only.
